I thought about the idea of this post while on the toilet. (Sorry for the TMI). But don’t the best ideas come to you in the bathroom? Whether it’s in the shower or on the throne, I think the best ideas do come from when you’re in there.

I am not huge on video games, mainly because I’m terrible at them. I am probably one of the worst “gamers” you’ll ever meet. I shouldn’t even be considered a gamer or anywhere near that category, but here I am anyway, writing about my five favorite video games.

#1 The Last of Us

I’ve played it on; Play Station3, Play Station 4

The Last of Us is a third-person perspective, apocalyptic, action-adventure, survival horror game. At the beginning of the game, the player plays a man named Joel, who takes on the task of escorting a girl named Ellie across the country. Weapons range from firearms to makeshift weapons from random objects to defend against hostile humans and hybrid zombie-like creatures that are infected with a fungus. The main focus of the game surrounds Ellie and Joel’s relationship.

My favorite part of this game is that it is in a third-person perspective and that it is a storyline where you pick the decisions. You don’t have to have that much coordination with pressing buttons. That is a massive plus for me because I can’t push more than 1-2 buttons at a time without getting confused. I also really enjoy the apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic type of games and movies.

There is downloadable content for this game and a remastered version.

I am still currently waiting for part two to be released.

#2 Dauntless

I’ve played it on; PC

Dauntless is a free-to-play, action roleplay video game. In this game, you fight beasts called Behemoths, and you are a slayer. You can play with up to four people at a time online and forge for materials at the same time. Each battle is fast-paced but unique. You can continuously upgrade weapons, armor, and other items as you play.

My favorite part of this game is that it is free and a relatively easy game to play. I also enjoy the fact that you play online with other people on other consoles, not just PC.

#3 Super Mario Maker 2

I’ve played it on; Nintendo Switch (available only on this console)

Super Mario Maker 2 is a side-scrolling platform game where you can create your own levels and play others. It is also the sequel to Super Mario MakerWhen creating your own levels, you can choose from 5 different styles with many different items available to create easy to complex courses. Unlike the original version, you can actually create stages with one other person and play in a multiplayer mode with up to four people. There is also a single story mode.

Any type of Mario game is and always will be my favorite. It is a game for basically all ages. I absolutely enjoy creating levels that my friends and family are usually unable to beat.

NOTE: A Nintendo Switch membership is required to play online and create levels.

#4 The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (Remake)

I’ve played it on; Nintendo Switch (available only on this console)

Link’s Awakening (the 2019 remake) is an action-adventure game that has the original “top-down” perspective and gameplay. This game has a really unique art style with toy-like character designs. There are multiple dungeons you need to go through to fight a variety of monsters to collect keys, eventually fighting a boss to obtain an instrument. The goal of the game is to wake the Wind Fish and escape the island that he has been stranded on.

This is one of my favorite games, probably, because it is one of the few games I have ever actually finished playing till the end and beat it. I also really enjoy most games on the Switch.
